Despite two explosions during the first Starship launches in 2025, SpaceX has received authorization from the FAA (Federal Aviation Administration of the U.S.) to resume flights of the world’s largest rocket.

The clearance comes after an investigation into the last accident, which occurred on flight 8, and despite the increased risk acknowledged by the regulatory agency.

However, the FAA imposed new requirements: it expanded the risk area, now covering 2,900 kilometers, including parts of Texas and the Caribbean, and mandated that upcoming tests take place outside peak hours to avoid impacts on commercial air traffic, as happened before.

According to SpaceX on its official X page, the ninth Starship flight test is being prepared to take place on May 27.

One of the highlights of this next launch will be the reuse of part of the rocket: the booster used in flight 7, which was undamaged. This will be the first time a Starship component is reused, marking a new step in SpaceX’s ambition to make its rockets more sustainable and efficient.
